Guide: Setting Up Smart Hybrid Cameras on a Hikvision NVR

Smart Hybrid Cameras combine advanced features like ColourVu, AcuSense, and Smart Hybrid Lighting for enhanced video surveillance. This guide explains how to configure and integrate these cameras with a Hikvision NVR.

Step 1: Connect and Power the Cameras

  1. Verify Compatibility:

    • Ensure your Smart Hybrid Cameras are compatible with the Hikvision NVR.
  2. Connect the Cameras:

    • For PoE (Power over Ethernet) cameras: Connect the camera directly to the NVR’s PoE port using an Ethernet cable.
    • For non-PoE cameras: Connect the camera to a PoE switch or use an external power adapter.
  3. Power On the NVR:

    • Ensure the NVR and cameras are powered on and connected to the same network.

Step 2: Access the NVR Interface

  1. Log in to the NVR:

    • Use a connected monitor or access the NVR via a web browser by entering its IP address.
    • Log in with your admin credentials.
  2. Activate Cameras (if required):

    • Navigate to Camera Management and activate the cameras using their default username and password.

Step 3: Add and Configure Smart Hybrid Cameras

  1. Auto-Detect Cameras:

    • Go to Configuration > Camera Management.
    • The NVR will detect connected cameras. Click Add for each camera.
  2. Manually Add Cameras (if needed):

    • If cameras are not auto-detected, click Manual Add and enter the camera’s IP address, username, and password.
  3. Verify Live View:

    • Check the Live View tab to ensure all cameras are displaying video feeds.

Step 4: Configure Smart Features

  1. Enable Smart Hybrid Lighting:

    • Navigate to Configuration > Image > Smart Hybrid Light Settings.
    • Select the desired lighting mode for each camera:
      • Infrared Mode: Black-and-white imaging with infrared lighting.
      • White Light Mode: Full-colour imaging with white light.
      • Smart Mode: Automatically switches between infrared and white light based on motion detection.
  2. Enable AcuSense Features:

    • Go to Configuration > Event > Smart Event.
    • Enable features like Human/Vehicle Detection or Intrusion Detection.
    • Define the detection area and set sensitivity for accurate alerts.
  3. Adjust Camera Settings:

    • Fine-tune image settings (e.g., brightness, contrast, and saturation) under Configuration > Image > Display Settings.

Step 5: Set Up Recording

  1. Schedule Recording:

    • Navigate to Configuration > Recording > Schedule Settings.
    • Set recording modes for each camera:
      • Continuous: Records non-stop.
      • Motion Detection: Records only when motion is detected.
      • Event-Triggered: Records based on events like human or vehicle detection.
  2. Enable Smart Recording:

    • Under Configuration > Recording > Parameters, enable Smart Stream or H.265+ Compression to save storage.

Step 6: Configure Notifications

  1. Enable Alarm Notifications:

    • Go to Configuration > Event > Basic Event.
    • Enable Notify Surveillance Center under Linkage Action for each event type.
  2. Set Up Hik-Connect Notifications:

    • Log in to the Hik-Connect app, link your NVR, and enable Alarm Notifications for the configured channels.

Step 7: Test the System

  1. Verify Smart Hybrid Lighting:

    • Test the lighting modes by walking into the camera’s field of view at different light levels.
  2. Test AcuSense Features:

    • Trigger human or vehicle detection to confirm accurate alerts.
  3. Check Recordings:

    • Playback recorded footage to ensure the settings are working as intended.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • No Live View from Cameras:

    • Check camera connections and ensure they are powered.
    • Verify the cameras are activated and added to the NVR.
  • Lighting Mode Not Switching:

    • Ensure Smart Mode is enabled and motion detection is configured.
  • Storage Issues:

    • Verify the NVR has a formatted and functioning HDD.

By following this guide, you can fully configure and optimise your Smart Hybrid Cameras with a Hikvision NVR, taking full advantage of their advanced features for robust surveillance.
